Design Thinking for Law Firms

We conduct Design Thinking sprints at regular intervals for our existing clients
to not only solve legal consumer issues, but also to inject a culture of innovation within the law firm.

Design Thinking Sprints

Design thinking is a strategy we’ve been working with law firms on for over 5 years. The whole “design thinking” methodology grew out of the work of Tim Brown at the renowned innovation consultancy, Ideo.

In its rawest form, design thinking is an iterative process in which we seek to understand the legal consumer, challenging assumptions we may have, and redefining their problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions that might not be instantly apparent with our initial level of understanding.  The scope of design thinking is endless.  Practically speaking, we have deployed design thinking across numerous law firm practice areas, including family law, personal injury and estate planning.

For Fast Firms though, design thinking isn’t a talk-fest.  It is an action orientated strategy that is time and event-driven, ensuring the law firm gets to a position of prototyping a possible solution sooner rather than later.

For example, in the case of an estate planning law firm, the design thinking challenge to disconnect the legal consumer’s notion that the extent of estate planning was a $330 Will and an Enduring Power of Attorney to their circumstances warranting consideration of a Testamentary Trust.  The prototype developed, was an online platform provided to clients prior to their estate planning meeting, that exposed them to issues that may be inherent in their situation that necessitates something possibly over and above a simple Will. The unique nature of the platform is that in essence the client self-selects their situation and are positioned differently to what they would have been in the event that they attended the appointment unqualified.

We conduct Design Thinking sprints at regular intervals for our existing clients to not only solve legal consumer issues but also to inject a culture of innovation within the law firm.
